The Sirimon track is one of the finest approaches to the peak and offers some of the best views of the main peaks with a gradual climb which is done leisurely.
Meet at your hotel at 0600hrs and transfer to Nanyuki arriving at 1000hrs for packed picnic lunch as you proceed to Sirimon Park Gate where you start the trek after formalities at the gate. Have an easy trek in the afternoon to help acclimatization. Arrive at your camp for check in and rest and spend the night in the high altitude mountain cabin having done about 5 hours walking. Breakfast followed by ascent through the Sirimon track to Likii North Valley below the subsidiary peaks of Teleki and Sendeyo, two ancient parasitic vents of the main peaks. Climb out of the North Valley into Mackinder’s Valley, one of the broadest valleys on the mountain with many giant groundsels. Arrive at Shiptons Cabins where you spend the night Overnight: Shiptons Camp (4,300m) Meal plan: Lunch, dinner, breakfast
Early wakeup call at 0200hrs so as to reach the summit by sunrise for rewarding views. Alpine ascent to the highest peak, Pt Lenana (4,985m) using the north face which is little used by tourists. This is 4 hours of stiff walking to the summit and is the most challenging of the trek. Have photos and rewarding scenes at the peak then at 0730hrs start the descent back to Mintos Hut where you have breakfast. After breakfast, descend to Meru Bandas for rest and overnight Overnight: Mt. Meru Bandas Meal plan: Lunch, dinner, breakfast
Breakfast is followed by further descent to the park gate and walk out of the park for about 4 hours. Pass through Chogoria and be driven back to Nairobi with lunch en route.
